Minneapolis Conference Previews: Polars are ready to play this season

On Nov. 24, The North High Polars played in the Minneapolis Conference Previews at Patrick Henry High School.  This event lasted from 6-9pm. Students paid $2 to watch; adults paid $5.

Eight Minneapolis public schools were scheduled to participate: Edison vs Washburn, North vs Southwest, Henry vs Roosevelt, and South vs Cooper. To everybody’s surprise Cooper backed out, so Henry played twice, against both Roosevelt and South. Edison won the game against Washburn. North beat Southwest. Henry was victorious against both Roosevelt and South.

The North and Henry teams stood out. They each had something different to bring to the table. Henry worked together as a team, and so did North. During warmups before the Henry vs Roosevelt game, the audience was impressed by how well the Henry boys were concentrated on the ball. They never lost sight of it. People were confused as to why Henry decided to play against South, instead of calling it a game. Henry showed the audience members that they had the energy to play two games.

North showed everybody that teamwork makes the dreamwork. At first, a lot of Polars doubted that they were going to win this game; the football team’s loss against Barnesville was on their minds. But the Polars ended up winning the short game 16-14. The Polars showed that with hard work and determination, anything can happen. They left it all on the floor that night. The North and Southwest game was very intense because everybody was counting on North to win their first game of the season to let everyone know what’s in store for the next team they play.

North and Henry have been long time rivals and they face off again on Dec. 14 at Henry.  Each team has a big audience, and at Conference Previews, they were loud and proud for their boys.
