New program seeks to create more area filmmakers

The new year brings a new opportunity for Northsiders to tell their stories via the Northside Cellphone Filmmakers project.

The project is led by three filmmakers, E.G. Bailey, D.A. Bullock and Shá Cage and is designed to develop a group of 50 cellphone filmmakers, providing participants with free cellphone video production and storytelling training and tools, creative support, and network-building opportunities to help amplify their voices, tell their stories effectively and distribute them widely.

“With this project we’ll be able to create an amazing ecosystem of filmmakers who can continue to support each other beyond the project. It’s like planting seeds – and those seeds will produce a lot of good fruit,” said Bullock.

“Now is the time to teach ourselves, our children and communities to rewrite the narrative,” said Cage.

The course, for beginning and intermediate filmmakers, will be offered for six weeks for approximately four hours per week this spring and summer. Registration for anyone age 18 or older is open now at www.thecapritheater.org.
